چکیده
Reinforced concrete structures are prevalent in infrastructure and of significant economic social importance to humanity. However, they prone decay from cement paste carbonation. pH sensors have been developed monitor carbonation, but their adoption by the industry remains limited. This work introduces two new methods for monitoring carbonation real time that validated through accelerated samples. Both configurations depart traditional monitoring. In first configuration, depth a sample is measured using CO2 optical fiber sensors. One sensor positioned on surface sample, while other embedded middle. As progresses reaches sensor, combined response changes. second multimode within paste, its monitored observing increase reflected light intensity (1.6–18%) resulting formation CaCO3. Its applicability naturally occurring tested at concentrations 3.2% CO2, influence water positively evaluated; thus, this setup suitable real-world testing applications.

Detection of Fuel Adulteration in Real Time Using Optical Fiber Sensor and Peripheral Interface Controller
Detection of fuel adulteration in real time is the most important need of the world as it generates the hazardous effects on the environment, living and nonliving things. Various automotive users and fuel providers may mix kerosene in petrol and diesel. Adulterated fuel increases air pollution, as well as reduces the performance of vehicle engines. Such a malpractice in fuel is prevailing becau...

By their very nature, optical fibers and, by extension, intrinsic and extrinsic optical fiberbased sensors are promising devices to be used in very different and complex environments considering their characteristics such as: capabilities to work under strong electromagnetic fields; possibility to carry multiplexed signals (time, wavelength multiplexing); small size and low mass; ability to han...
متن کاملWeight Measurements by Using Simple Optical-Fiber Sensors (RESEARCH NOTE)
The use of different optical-fiber sensors for weighing measurements is Abstract described. By using three different mechanical stressing mechanisms, the operation of the fiber-to-fiber transducer systems are tested and the results are presented. Parameters such as sensitivity, hysteresis, resolution, and dynamic range are measured. A comparison of the results has shown that the sensor system m...

In previous publications and presentations we have described our construction of a laboratory-on-a-chip based on nanoliter capacity wells etched in silicon. We have described methods for dispensing reagents as well as samples, for preventing evaporation, for embedding electronics in each well to measure fluid volume per well in real-time, and for monitoring the production or consumption of NADH...
متن کاملOptical and Microcantilever-Based Sensors for Real-Time In Situ Characterization of High-Level Waste
Fundamental research is being conducted to develop sensors for cesium and strontium that can be used in real-time to characterize highlevel waste (HLW) process streams. Two fundamentally different approaches are being pursued, having in common the dependence on highly selective molecular recognition agents. In one approach, an array of chemically selective sensors with sensitive fluorescent pro...
